Women's & Gender Studies Overview

Women’s and Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary program that examines the role of gender, and gender difference in shaping society, culture, history, intellectual traditions, and the arts. Students explore how gender intersects with race, class, sexuality, and other identities to influence individual experiences and social structures.

Through courses that draw from disciplines such as sociology, history, literature, psychology, and communication, students develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of social justice, representation, and equality.

The program encourages active engagement with real-world issues through research, discussion, and community involvement. Graduates of Women’s and Gender Studies are well-prepared for careers in education, social services, advocacy, public policy, communications, and the arts, or for continuing their studies in graduate or professional programs.
