The Teacher Education Department at Adrian College empowers competent, caring, creative, and committed future educators and strives to provide the best preparation for teacher candidates interested in teaching at the secondary level.

Candidates can select from a variety of majors and minors at the secondary level with the knowledge that the teacher certification programs are accredited by the Michigan Department of Education. Completing the program requirements leads to teacher certification from the State of Michigan, which is transferable to most other states, although some additional requirements may be necessary. The secondary majors/minors provide candidates with the theory, foundational knowledge and the practical clinical experiences needed to become effective educators.

The Teacher Education Department offers several comprehensive K-12 majors for teacher candidates. These K-12 programs in Health/Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, and Spanish offer candidates the chance to become certified to teach students in grades K-12 in these specific content areas. Coursework is designed to allow you specialization in each of these areas. Along with the required coursework, you will complete Teacher Education courses and clinical experiences giving you numerous hours of practical experience working with students in different grade levels.
