Political Communications Overview

Prepare to lead at the intersection of politics and media. The Political Communications major equips students with the strategic, communication, and analytical skills needed to influence public opinion and drive meaningful change.

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Communications prepares students to navigate the rapidly evolving world where politics, media, and public messaging intersect. This interdisciplinary program combines political science, strategic communication, research, and media studies to build a strong foundation for careers in modern political and communication environments.

Students develop the knowledge, practical skills, and ethical perspective needed to succeed as political advocates, policy professionals, communication specialists, and campaign leaders in a fast-changing global landscape.

Program learning objectives:

Develop and Apply Political Communications Strategies:

This is an ever-changing arena, but students who graduate with this degree come away with experience in crafting strategic political communications plans, creating related digital and social media content and clearly understand the not just the value of creating such messaging, but also understanding how that messaging connects with a target audience.

Enhance Presentation and Public Speaking Skills:

It goes without saying that practitioners in the political arena are able to connect with the audiences around them. They are able to create persuasive messages that drive people to action. In today’s world, it’s not enough to simply get people to show up on Election Day, you have to engage them where they are, and long before the polls open. A confident, polished ability to speak persuasively is critical here.

Improve Writing Skills for Professional Communication:

In addition to verbal presentation and engagement skills, practitioners in the political arena are expected to be able to connect through the written word. As a result, Political Communications Majors will be well-versed in crafting press releases, creating engaging media kits and producing content for various platforms. Audiences are unforgiving in today’s world and a focus on the value of writing will help our Political Communications Majors connect with an often-fractured world.
