Graduate Studies
Pursuing your dream career starts with the next phase of your education. When you enroll in graduate school at Adrian College, you’re beginning more than advanced training in your field; you’re accelerating your professional journey.
The BFA in film offers students wishing to specialize in film production a path within the communication arts and sciences department.
The BFA in film studies focuses on skills filmmakers will need if pursuing an MFA in film or a career in the film industry. The electives for the major allow students to develop their writing, production, and editing skills within a variety of film disciplines. Students will be encouraged to think critically about film theory and develop creativity with their production abilities.
Established in December 2020 by an anonymous donor and their family foundation, The Adrian College Film Studies Scholarship was established to annually recognize a student who is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Studies at Adrian College. The scholarship was provided to, “provide educational opportunities to people who have demonstrated a strong desire and motivation to further their education in Film Studies but may lack the financial resources or otherwise may not be able to pursue their educational goals. It is the desire of the donor that the student recipient(s) be recognized at the annual Adrian International Film Festival Award Ceremony.” Students interested in the scholarship should reach out to their Admissions Counselor for more information.
The Adrian International Film Festival was established in 2018 by Adrian College faculty. The annual event is held each May in an effort to highlight talented independent filmmakers and help with the continued revitalization of downtown Adrian, Michigan.
Students accepted into the program will focus on building a foundation within the film and media industry during their first two years in the Communication Arts program. Following the completion of their second-year classes, students will move into Film Studies-focused courses, giving them the ability to experience and work directly with their cohort on prospective filmmaking careers.
Following their junior year, students will complete and publicly present a year-long capstone film production, focusing on the area of film studies they wish to pursue moving forward.
