Criminal Justice

Joint Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Adrian College and Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law Program

• Students can earn a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctor in three years instead of five and 89 credits instead of 122.
• Future criminal attorneys and judges can develop skills, expertise, and an important additional credential before entering a competitive job market
• Students get an opportunity to do individualized research on the criminal justice topic of their choice with an expert in their chosen field 
• Law students will take advanced courses in criminology and social research methods.  Criminal Justice students will prepare for a career practicing criminal law.

• SCJ 500: Criminology and Prevention Policy (3 credits)
• SCJ 525: Graduate Research Methods I (3 credits)
• SCJ 575: Graduate Research Methods II (3 credits)
• SCJ 598: Major Paper (3 credits) or SCJ 599: Thesis Defense (3 credits)

• LAWD 9300: Criminal Law (3 or 4 credits)
• LAWI 9940: White Collar Crime (3 credits)
• LAWG 9210: Criminal Procedure I (3 credits)
• LAWI 9280: Criminal Procedure II (3 credits)
• LAWA 9120: Constitutional Law—Rights (3 credits)
• LAWI 9490: Juvenile Law (3 credits)

• Experiential Learning Course: A LAWN experiential course focused on criminal law practice (3 credits). This may include field placements through UTLAW’s Public Service Externship related to criminal justice or criminal law.
