Mission
The mission of the ESC is to provide student members with additional training and exposure in the multifaceted field of Exercise Science. Through collaboration with professionals and peer members, students will continually build upon their knowledge, professionalism, and overall excellence in regards to human integrated performance. Members of the club will acquire a greater understanding of graduate studies in related fields of study, which will lead to greater preparedness when applying to such graduate programs.
Activities
Physical activity continues to take on an increasingly important role in the prevention and treatment of multiple chronic diseases, health conditions, and their risk factors. It is well established that a minimum level of physical activity is one of the best forms of health insurance. With the increased emphasis on personal responsibility in health care, it pays for individuals to be informed about their risk for disease and illness and the role of exercise and physical activity. As an educational endeavor, the ESC at Adrian College makes several physical fitness assessments available to the campus community. These assessments give participants insight into their heart/cardiovascular health, body composition status, and muscular/joint fitness level.
Assessments provided include the following:
Cardiorespiratory Fitness – Direct measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during maximal exercise (VO 2 max).
Bone Density – Assessment of the mineral content of the skeletal bones via a DEXA Scan.
