Dr. Ken Ross

The autobiography of Dr. Ken Ross, emeritus professor of political science at Adrian College, was recently released and is available from Ingram, and Amazon. He had also authored five other books. Dr. Ross taught at AC from 1968-1997, and died March 11, 2024.

Following his retirement, he returned home to rural Maine. He played a key role in several environmental causes in Michigan and Maine. First visiting Alaska in 1959, he lived there a total of three years including two winters in the Arctic bush. These life experiences contributed to forming the many pieces professor Ross added over time to an environmental puzzle he wished to complete – an effective environmental philosophy.

While at AC, Dr. Ross created a course called Politics and the Environment, was founder of ECOL (Environmental Council of Lenawee), assisted Bicentennial Park with the Woerner Woods Nature Area, and the Raisin River Greenspace. The Michigan Nature Association awarded him with the 2012 Mason and Melvin Shafer Distinguished Service Award, and renamed the sanctuary as the Kenneth W. Ross Nature Sanctuary.
