Dean of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness

Dr. Nathan Gordon serves as Dean of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness at Adrian College, where he also holds the rank of Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of Humanities.

Dr. Gordon earned his Ph.D. in Medieval and Early Modern Hispanic Literatures (2017), M.A. in Spanish Literature (2012), and B.A. in Spanish Literature (2010) from the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as an A.A. in Humanities from Mt. San Jacinto College (2006).

Before his current role, Dr. Gordon held several academic and administrative appointments, including Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies & Institutional Effectiveness at Adrian College, Assistant Professor of Spanish at Adrian College and the University of Findlay, and Chair of Adrian’s Department of Modern Languages & Cultures. He also taught at Brigham Young University as Visiting Assistant Professor and Visiting Instructor of Spanish.

Dr. Gordon is a specialist in Hispanic literature with a primary focus on colonial Latin American literature, history, cultures, and studies, particularly the pre-Columbian Andean world. His scholarship emphasizes the intersections of early modern Hispanic texts with indigenous histories and cultural identities in the Andes, situating colonial discourse within broader questions of literature, memory, and society. At the same time, he is a generalist in Hispanic literature more broadly, engaging with diverse traditions across the Spanish-speaking world. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Literature and Trauma Studies, Hispanófila, and Bulletin of the Comediantes. He also contributes regular book reviews to Studies in Latin American Popular Culture, Hispanic American Historical Review, and other scholarly outlets.
