Dr. Thompson received a B.S. in Physics from the University of Michigan – Dearborn. After taking a year off, he earned a M.S. in Physics from Eastern Michigan University. His research at EMU involved numerical computations in causal set kinematics (causal set theory is one approach to quantum gravity). He then focused his studies on astrophysics, completing his Ph.D. in Physics with an Astrophysics concentration at the University of Toledo. His research at UT focused on time-series analysis of H and He lines found in the visible spectrum of the hot supergiant star epsilon Orionis. His current research involves studying the photometric variability of stars using time-series data from the Kepler and TESS satellites. Dr. Thompson also has a growing interest in the sonification of astronomical observations (turning data into sound) for both scientific and artistic expression. Students interested in joining his research group should feel free to contact him.
