ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian College’s Teacher Education Department received its Michigan Department of Education Preparation Institution (MDE/EPI) Performance Scorecard and earned scores that met or exceeded statewide expectations in almost every reported category.
Highlights for Adrian College came in the categories of Performance as Classroom Teachers — Demonstrated Teaching Knowledge (99.4%, compared with the state average of 90.7%) and Robust Clinical Experiences, including Teacher Candidates (96.7%, compared with the state average of 84.6%), Candidate Supervisor (100%, compared with the state average of 93.8%), Cooperating Teacher (94.1%, compared with the state average of 82.7%) and Program Partnership Strength (92.4%, compared with the state average of 91.0%).
Adrian College earned 87 out of 95 possible points, or 91.6%. Institutions must earn 77% of total possible points to meet satisfactory requirements.
The results place Adrian College among the highest-performing educator preparation programs in Michigan, according to Kyle Griffith, Ed.D., director of the Institute for Education and Liberal Arts at Adrian College.
Griffith said the scorecard reflects the department’s unwavering commitment to preparing highly effective educators who are ready to make an immediate impact in P-12 classrooms.
“Our faculty, staff, mentor teachers, school partners and candidates have worked tirelessly to create a program focused on excellence, innovation and continuous improvement,” Griffith said. “These results affirm that our graduates are entering the profession equipped with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to positively impact student learning from day one.”
The MDE/EPI Performance Score evaluates educator preparation programs using multiple measures of effectiveness, including teacher preparation quality, completer performance, employer feedback, retention data and other indicators aligned with state expectations. Adrian College’s performance demonstrates excellence across these measures and highlights the strength of the institution’s preparation model.
“This accomplishment is the result of a collective effort,” Griffith said. “We are grateful to our faculty, candidates, cooperating teachers, district partners, alumni and advisory members whose dedication has contributed to these exceptional outcomes.”
The Teacher Education Department continues to build on its recent successes, including strong completer satisfaction data, positive employer feedback, innovative program enhancements and ongoing accreditation efforts. Griffith said the department remains focused on preparing future educators who embody professionalism, instructional excellence and a commitment to student success.
“As Adrian College looks toward the future, the department will continue leveraging performance data and stakeholder feedback to strengthen programs, support candidates and serve Michigan’s schools and communities,” Griffith said.
The Adrian College Teacher Education Department prepares future educators through rigorous coursework, extensive clinical experiences, strong partnerships with P-12 schools and a commitment to evidence-based teaching practices. Graduates are prepared to lead classrooms, foster student achievement and make meaningful contributions to the educational profession throughout Michigan and beyond.
