ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian College and Clarke International University (CIU) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for collaborative activities related to education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and the professionalization of Uganda's coffee value chain.

The agreement outlines areas of mutual interest through which the two institutions may explore opportunities for academic engagement, innovation initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities for students and faculty.

According to the MOU, the institutions share a vision of supporting the modernization and professionalization of Uganda's coffee sector through education, innovation, and international collaboration while promoting cross-cultural learning and engagement.

Under the agreement, CIU will lead the development of coffee-sector training initiatives through the Clarke Coffee Institute. Adrian College will contribute expertise in entrepreneurship, business development, innovation, and global market.

The MOU also identifies opportunities for collaboration through The Foundry, CIU's innovation platform, which supports the development and implementation of practical solutions related to strengthening the coffee value chain.

An additional area of focus involves the potential development of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects. Such initiatives would allow students from both institutions to participate in shared academic experiences related to coffee systems, entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability, and global commerce.

Jeffrey R. Docking, President at Adrian College, noted that the agreement aligns with the institution's commitment to experiential learning and international engagement.

"This memorandum establishes a framework through which both institutions can explore opportunities for collaboration that benefit students, faculty, and the communities we serve," Docking said. "The partnership provides an opportunity to connect entrepreneurship, innovation, and global learning while supporting workforce and economic development initiatives associated with Uganda's coffee sector."

Rose Clarke Nanyonga, Vice Chancellor of Clarke International University stated that the agreement reflects the institution's interest in developing international partnerships that support educational innovation and workforce development.

"The coffee sector represents an important component of Uganda's economy," the Nanyonga said. "Through collaboration with Adrian College, we hope to explore educational and innovation-based initiatives that contribute to professional development, entrepreneurship, and student learning."
