More than a quarter of a million dollars was contributed to Adrian College on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2, as 1,268 donors surpassed the institution’s goals.

“To raise $295,926 in a single day is absolutely incredible and inspiring,” said Jim Mahony, Adrian College Vice President of Development. “Scholarships, student organizations, athletic teams and many more areas of campus received support. A new scholarship was even created.”

Mahony said Adrian College began participating in the Giving Tuesday event in 2015 and donations have increased every year since.

“That year we had 20 donors give $5,737,” Mahony said. “We were thrilled with that result because we weren't totally sure how Giving Tuesday would be perceived. Fast-forward to 2025, and I am completely blown away by the loyalty and support of our alumni and friends.”

Donors were able to contribute to several Adrian College projects. The area that received the most support was athletics, with $148,614 directed to various teams.

NCAA baseball received the most funding, with 55 donors giving $23,708.
Men’s NCAA hockey followed with $21,400 from 63 donors, and the women’s NCAA hockey team was third with 157 donors contributing $18,260.

Adrian College’s cheer team had the highest number of donors, with 255 contributors giving $5,929.

Following athletics in funding were scholarships ($62,145), Greek life ($38,122), academics ($8,890), the assist fund ($4,700), College of the Future ($2,875), student life ($2,375), and Adrian College TV ($595).

Statistics show that 40% of overall donations came from friends, while 26% came from parents. Alumni gave 22%; students, 13%; faculty and staff, 9%; and Greek life, 6%.

The donor map shows the top three contributing states were Michigan (876), Ohio (99) and Illinois (35).

Mahony credited his staff for helping make this year such a success.

“A lot of hard work was put into this day by my team: Jenny Carlson, Jeffrey Mason, Cindy Beaubien, Kaye Reinhart and Connie Williams,” he said. “Each played a critical role in making this another record-breaking year!”
