Hickman Gallery hosting Athena Art Society Juried Art Exhibition

Adrian College’s Hickman Gallery is currently hosting the Athena Art Society Juried Art Exhibition 2025, featuring works created by members. The exhibition will be on display through Dec. 3, with a public reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
“We’re honored to partner with the Athena Art Society and to welcome these talented artists to Hickman Gallery,” said Travis Erxleben, Chair of the Adrian College Department of Art and Design. “This exhibition celebrates more than a century of artistic excellence and the enduring strength of women in the arts.”
This year’s juror is Barbara Miner, professor and chair of the Department of Art at the University of Toledo. Miner has been an artist and scholar for more than 25 years and previously worked as a full-time studio ceramicist for a decade. Her mixed-media sculptures, installation works, paintings and prints have been exhibited nationally and internationally in more than 100 exhibitions.
Founded in 1903 in Toledo, Ohio, the Athena Art Society is one of the oldest women’s art organizations in the United States. Established at a time when few opportunities existed for women artists, the group continues to foster the advancement of women in the visual arts through exhibitions, educational programs and community involvement. Its members include painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed-media artists from across the region.
“As one of the oldest women’s artist associations in the country, the Athena Art Society has been part of the fabric of the arts community in Toledo for more than 120 years,” said Michelle Arnold Paine, Athena Art Society’s Fall Juried Exhibition Committee Chair. “For me, becoming a member has been an amazing opportunity to be part of this heritage and become friends with those who are educating, supporting and advocating for the arts in our region. In addition, being able to show my work in exhibitions at high-quality venues such as the newly renovated Hickman Gallery at Adrian College is a highlight of each year.”
The Hickman Gallery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
