Adrian College will host its 2025 Meet the Army Community Day and Tactical Athlete Challenge on Friday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), Mine Resistant All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV), chemical detection robot, wrecker, laser shooting range, and more. Depending on availability and weather, a Black Hawk or Chinook helicopter may make a special appearance at approximately 8:30 am.
All events are free and open to the public.
The Meet the Army Community Day was created in 2023 to introduce students to The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and National Guard scholarship opportunities available through Adrian College. It also showcases the Army’s commitment to performance optimization through its H2F (Holistic Health and Fitness) system, designed to maximize soldiers’ physical and mental performance.
The event organizer, Tina Claiborne, Adrian College Exercise Science and Athletic Training Director/Professor, said she is eager to build on the community enthusiasm from the past couple of years.
“The partnership between Adrian’s ROTC program and the Michigan Army National Guard has been fantastic,” Claiborne said. “Our affiliation has created many scholarship opportunities for students and led to new academic programs in military science and tactical strength and conditioning. I hope that folks take the opportunity to swing by, tour Army combat vehicles and meet our nation’s soldiers.”
Other event highlights include:
Competitors will include students and staff from Adrian High School, Madison High School and Adrian College.
“As an exciting addition this year, high school students will have the opportunity to attend special sessions focused on ROTC and Michigan National Guard scholarship opportunities,” Claiborne said.
She is also featuring a fundraiser to support local veterans’ organizations where visitors can donate by scanning a QR code on posted fliers.
“We are thrilled to welcome everyone back for another fun and interactive experience!” Claiborne said.
The event’s community partners include the American Legion Posts: William C. Stark Post 97; G. Chandler Bond Post 275; Game One; Red Paint Printing; Walmart; McAlister’s Deli; and Old National Bank.
