Twenty-one-year-old country-rock artist Preston Cooper has been selected as the opening act for Adrian College’s Spring Concert, featuring Kameron Marlowe’s Keepin’ the Lights On Tour, on Friday, March 21, in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the first performance scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Cooper, a native of Fredericktown, Ohio, is known in his hometown as the “Singing Mailman” for belting out raw, raspy vocals — reminiscent of artists such as Chris Stapleton, Bob Seger and Teddy Swims — while making his deliveries.
After finishing his day job, Cooper performed hundreds of shows before being discovered in 2023 by singer-songwriters Brad and Brett Warren in Toledo, Ohio. The duo has written multiple No. 1 hits, including “Every Time I Hear That Song” (Blake Shelton), “Sober Saturday Night” (Chris Young), “Lights Come On” (Jason Aldean), “Highway Don’t Care” (Tim McGraw), “Little Bit of Everything” (Keith Urban), “Drink to That All Night” (Jerrod Niemann), “Felt Good on My Lips” (Tim McGraw), and “Feel That Fire” (Dierks Bentley).
Cooper wrote and recorded a mix of raw, organic country and alternative rock before moving to Nashville in 2024. He recently released an original single, “Weak,” before hitting the road again to support Riley Green’s Damn Country Music Tour and Marlowe’s Keepin’ the Lights On Tour.
Singer-songwriter Jon Torrence of Native Heart will also be an opening act at Adrian College’s concert. Torrence performs extensively in Michigan and Ohio and has been featured multiple times at Adrian College events. Torrence said his music blends elements of folk, hip-hop, rock, and R&B, drawing inspiration from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Radiohead, and Dave Matthews.
The event’s main sponsor is Jebbee, a social media platform about jobs, education and business. It connects students to mentors, educational institutions and companies to explore careers and the educational paths to achieve them. For more information, visit jebbee.com.
General admission concert tickets are $50 and can be purchased online through HomeTown Ticketing.
