Adrian College’s Ward Admissions House received an emailed bomb threat at 8:32 a.m., which authorities later traced to an overseas server. The threat specifically targeted the Ward Admissions House. In response, the building was immediately evacuated. Adrian College Campus Safety, the Adrian Police Department and Adrian Fire Department were then dispatched to the scene.
Adrian College then notified its campus community about the situation via email.
As a precaution, public safety officials secured the area between Williams Street and College Avenue and issued a temporary shelter-in-place order for those nearby.
After a thorough investigation and a sweep of the building by Adrian police and Michigan State Police K-9 units, authorities determined at 11:50 a.m. that the threat was not credible and there was no danger to the campus community.
At this time, all campus operations have resumed as usual.
“We appreciate the swift response from our local emergency services and the cooperation of our students, faculty and staff during this situation,” said Frank Hribar, Adrian College vice president of enrollment and student affairs. “The safety of our community is always our top priority.”
An investigation is underway to determine the origin of the threatening email. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Adrian College’s Campus Safety Department at 517.265.5161, ext. 4333.
