ADRIAN — Adrian College President Jeffrey Docking was the commencement speaker for Michigan International Prep School, a 100% tuition free, K-12 online school based out of Davison, MI, on June 8, at the Capitol Theatre in Flint.

Michigan International Prep School is fully AdvancEd/Cognia accredited as a K-12 public charter and is also NCAA and NAIA approved.

“I want to talk to you about what I think you need to do to be successful, things that I wish I had known at your age. Things that I learned the hard way,” Docking said to the students.

He told the graduating class of 2023 that he believes there are only four things they need to do to be successful.

Docking explained through a heartfelt speech that the graduates should work hard; be grateful, be curious, and be humble.

“If you do these things, you will be successful,” he said. “You will be a person that others look up to. You will be person the boss can never fire, because you’re different and have character and qualities that others don’t have.”

Docking wished the students nothing but the best and concluded his speech by saying, “You should be so proud that you’ve had the fortitude, the stick-to-itiveness to take the tests, the quizzes, write the papers and live up to the measure of what these amazing teachers and administrators have set before you.”

Docking said one of the reasons he decided to be Michigan International Prep School’s commencement speaker is because he was impressed with the school’s innovative efforts to offer online education through modern technology to help students in need of an alternative path to a high school diploma.

“Michigan International Prep School is looking to the future by offering what many people are looking for these days — a high-quality online, or hybrid education,” Docking said. “Similar to Adrian College, they are reimagining how education is being offered, and keeping up with the ever changing dynamics of today’s educational landscape.”

Michigan International Prep School provides its students with the needed technology to study, including a MIPS Chromebook for students in grades 6-12, iPads for grades K-5, and Wi-Fi network devices for any student as needed.

For students who are ahead of the curve, Michigan International Prep School offers dual enrollment opportunities that allow students to earn college credit in high school.
