AC Social Work Department awarded reaffirmation of accreditation status

Posted Tuesday, December 06, 2022

Adrian College’s Social Work Department was recently awarded reaffirmation of its accreditation status by the Counsel of Social Work Education (CSWE).

CSWE’s Commission on Accreditation (COA) is responsible for developing accreditation standards that define competent preparation and ensuring that social work programs meet these standards. In accordance with the requirements of CSWE’s recognition body, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the CSWE Office of Social Work Accreditation administers a multistep accreditation process that involves program self-studies, site visits, and
COA reviews.

The Adrian College Social Work Program received the highest approval available — an eight-year reaffirmation.

Currently, Adrian College’s Social Work Program prepares students for careers in a variety of settings, including: therapy and counseling, school counseling/social workers, hospitals, criminal justice, and child welfare programs.

Adrian College professors teaching the class include Jody DiMarco, Monique James, Jennifer Towns, and Emily Kipp.

Because Adrian College’s Social Work Program offers a fully accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree, students who graduate from this program are able to attend graduate schools and earn a master’s degree in only one additional year, instead of the typical timeline of two years for other degrees.

For more information about the program, email Adrian College at academicaffairs@adrian.edu.
