On April 2, 2022, in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center, Adrian College’s Athletic Training program hosted the Michigan National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Conference in partnership with Dr. Jeff Murphy, Professor Victor Liberi, and the Institute for Sports Medicine. The NSCA is the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning, and they support research-based knowledge and its application to improve athletic performance. At this conference, the agenda included research presentations and practical-skills workshops for graduate students.

Athletic Training students Mackenna Crowley, Molly Hayes, Hannah Heller, Kiley Horn, Cody Schramm, Hunter Schramm, Gabby Udell, and Griffin Werth assisted with conference logistics to make the event welcoming to attendees from all over the state. Hannah Heller shared her favorite moments: “I helped organize students volunteering along with Mackenna Crowley and then helped set up and was there during the conference if anything was needed. Tony Morano was the head of the conference, and it was really cool to be able to make that connection as well as promote the Adrian College Athletic Training program.”

Heller also added that Athletic Training students were allowed to sit in on any of the presentations: “They were all really educational, and I loved watching the hands-on portions.”

Events like this are what set Adrian College apart from other schools. In order to ensure that more Athletic Training students get this educational experience, the undergraduate Human Integrated Performance club and the graduate Athletic Training Student Organization raised funds to attend the National Athletic Trainers Association’s national convention in Philadelphia, set to take place in summer 2022.
