Diversity has increased at Adrian College since 2010 with the number of white students decreasing from 80% to 67% across campus by fall 2019, according to MLive reporter Steve Marowski, who recently wrote an article titled, “Small Michigan colleges are becoming more diverse even as enrollment continues to decline.”
Frank Hribar, Adrian College vice president of enrollment and student affairs, was quoted in the article and said instead of doing research and changing recruiting, Adrian College officials sat down with students on campus and asked them what they were looking for, and what kind of experiences they would like.
“Rather than relying on sort of the traditional methods of recruiting travel and trying to infuse more financial aid and scholarship dollars, we’ve really attempted to look at ways to build our private college so that it is more attractive to a broader and more diverse population,” Hribar said in the article.
Marowski noted that tuition and required fees at Adrian College are $37,809, according to NCES data. Hribar explained that Adrian College works to get beyond the sticker price and talk about the ways students and their families can get financial assistance to afford the right educational structure for them.
“We’re very fortunate that we serve roughly 2,000 students as opposed to hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands of students so our financial aid staff can really sit down with families on a one-on-one basis to give them a much better sense for what the true cost to them will be,” Hribar said.
