Seventy-two Lenawee County students receive degrees from Adrian College

Adrian College conducted two commencements last weekend, recognizing its spring Class of 2020 on Saturday, May 1, and its December 2020 graduates and spring Class of 2021 on Sunday, May 2. While not all of Adrian College’s graduating students attended, 626 students were officially awarded degrees during the weekend.
“Our students have persevered through a challenging year and we are very pleased to give them the recognition they deserve,” Adrian College President Jeffrey Docking said. “Our goal from the start of the academic year was to give them as normal a college experience as possible. These ceremonies are consistent with this goal.”
Due to state COVID-19 gathering restrictions, Adrian College hosted its commencements in Docking Stadium and limited entrance with tickets so social distancing protocols could be followed.
Adrian College had graduates from 26 states and five foreign countries, and as far away as Kumamoto, Japan.
Seventy-two of Adrian College’s graduates were Lenawee County residents. Three of four cities in Lenawee County had students receive degrees from the institution. Adrian had the largest group with 34 receiving diplomas while Tecumseh follows with nine. Morenci had two receive degrees during commencement weekend.
Konner Linn of Tecumseh graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. He said he chose Adrian College because of the “beautiful campus and Ivy League feel,” and felt the campus was just the right size for him.
“The best thing about Adrian College is the small class sizes and personal relationships you create with the academia and faculty,” he said.
Also having local residents receive degrees were Addison (1), Blissfield (8), Clayton (1), Clinton (5), Deerfield (2), Manitou Beach (2), Onsted (2), Tipton (2) and Sand Creek (4).
Onsted native MacKenzie Johncox said she chose Adrian College because it was only a short distance from home. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management.
“I chose Adrian College because it allowed me to be close to home, save money, and earn a great education,” she said, adding that the best thing about Adrian College is “the people.”
“The friends that I have made and my professors have had a real impact on my life,” Johncox said.
Adrian had four students receive Master of Science degrees: Elizabeth Cabrera-Martinez (accounting), Alex Flynn (accounting), Jenna Moreno (athletic training) and Haley Petrowski (accounting); one receiving a Master of Education, Keisha VanGeison (curriculum, instruction and assessment); and one receiving a Master of Arts, Kathryn Wolak (criminal justice).
Clinton’s Scott McGaw received a Master of Science in Accounting.
Manitou Beach resident Amanda Rodriguez received a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Administration.
Sand Creek twins Destiny and Infinity Rogers received Master of Science in Athletic Training degrees.
Representing the top of their classes as Adrian College Honors Program graduates were, Ella Nighswander (Deerfield, Bachelor of Arts in Language Arts-Elementary Education), Destiny Rogers (Sand Creek, Master of Science in Athletic Training), Infinity Rogers (Sand Creek, Master of Science in Athletic Training), Margaret Foss (Tecumseh, Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science), and Kylee Doty (Tipton, Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts & Sciences).
The honor students entered Adrian College showing academic excellence based on high school GPA and ACT scores. While at Adrian College they completed three colloquia, three honors-enhanced course options and studied abroad in addition to their other college requirements.
