It’s “go time” at Adrian College, after the Bulldogs recently secured top performers for their annual Spring Concert. Preparations are underway to feature co-headliners Hunter Hayes, a country music performer, and B.o.B., a hip-hop artist, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20 in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center, located on the Adrian College campus.
“Based on a student survey, Hunter Hayes and B.o.B received the majority of votes, so it made perfect sense to have them co-headline,” Adrian College Special Projects and Communications Coordinator Lesley Dempsey said. “We are super excited to have this eclectic line up as it will likely appeal to a more diverse audience than in previous years.”
A multi-instrumentalist and platinum-selling recording artist, Hayes released his latest studio album, “Wild Blue (Part I),” last August. He wrote or co-wrote all 10 songs and plays multiple instruments on every track. The album has already accrued over 77 million on-demand streams to date.
Rolling Stone described the title track as “equal parts Ed Sheeran and John Mayer [pointing] to a new self-aware direction for Hayes.”
Hayes, a Louisiana native, was recognized as one of People’s magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive in 2019. He has achieved nearly two billion on-demand global streams since the release of his platinum-certified debut album, along with six gold and platinum-certified singles. In addition to his legendary live shows, Hayes has also toured with superstars like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood and has headlined sold-out shows across the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. Hayes has more than 50 award nominations and wins, including five Grammy Award nominations, a People’s Choice Award and a Country Music Association Award.
B.o.B, Bobby Ray Simmons Jr., a six-time Grammy Award-nominated multi-platinum rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist, describes himself as a multi-talented hip-hop lyrical genius from Atlanta, Ga., who has influentially and successfully paved his way in the entertainment industry.
Since the release of his 2009 commercial debut single “Nothin On You,” featuring Motown’s very own Bruno Mars (three-times platinum), B.o.B. has climbed the Billboard Top 200 charts with smash hits including “Airplanes,” featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore and Eminem [6-times platinum], and “Magic,” featuring Rivers Cuomo of Weezer [2-times platinum]. B.o.B. has collaborated with other top artists, including Taylor Swift (Both of Us), Nicki Minaj (Out of My Mind), Lil Wayne (E.T.), CeeLo Green and Usher (Big Kids), and many more.
In 2018, he released the album “Naga,” and followed up with a new EP titled “Southmatic” last year. The 16-track project is available on all major streaming platforms.
B.o.B. is also a visual artist who creates vivid concepts to go along with his music. B.o.B.’s promoters said fans absolutely love his conscious rhymes and bad boy yet super-chill vibe that has a positive effect on whoever he encounters.
“I love trying to evolve, break ground, and push people out of their comfort zones,” B.o.B. said. “It’s a circular relationship though because they inspire me to do so.”
