Founders of Jasmynn’s Voice to share story at AC Disabilities Awareness Week Convocation

Posted Friday, March 08, 2019

Adrian College will be featuring the founders of Jasmynn’s Voice, a local non-profit organization, at its annual Disabilities Awareness Week Convocation. Melissa and David Archer, along with their daughter, Jazz, will speak at Dawson Auditorium at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 20.

Jasmynn’s Voice was inspired by Jasmynn “Jazz” Archer, a local 18-year-old high school student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Archers want to share their story with other families. They plan to talk about their journey with Autism and how they were able to help Jazz find her voice.

“They are an amazing family who will bring insight and information that will make real changes in the lives of those who attend,” Barbara Dame, the Accessibilities Specialist at Adrian College, said.

The organization provides iPads as communication devices to nonverbal children and young adults in Southeastern Michigan with the help of sponsors and donations from the communities it serves. According to Melissa, their mission is to “provide a voice to those living with autism so that they may engage within a community, rich in awareness, understanding, and acceptance.”

The event is free and open to the public.
