Private/Alternative Loans

Adrian College has compiled a preferred lenders list to provide students with a few different loan options.

Preferred Lenders List

Our preferred lender list is compiled using neutral, student-centered criteria, including total borrower cost, repayment flexibility, approval times, customer-service metrics, and co-signer release options. At least two unaffiliated lenders are included. We review the list annually. You are not required to use a lender on this list and may select any eligible lender; we will process all certifications impartially. (Authority: 34 CFR 601.10)

Private Loan Self-Certification

Federal government regulations require that a lender must obtain a self-certification signed by the loan applicant before disbursing a private education loan. Student borrowers must complete the Private Education Loan Applicant Self-Certification Form (which is provided by the lender as part of the application process) and return it to the lender (do not send it to Adrian College). The intent of the self-certification form is to ensure that as a student you recognize that you may have other borrowing options (for example, federal loans) that offer better terms and conditions than a private loan; that your eligibility for other student aid may be affected by taking out a private loan; and that you are aware of the amount of your education costs.

Your lender must receive the completed and signed document before you can receive your loan. The purpose is for you to learn more about your financial aid. The accuracy of the self-certification form is not verified and will not affect your private loan eligibility.

Be an Informed Borrower

Loan provisions and requirements vary greatly and change frequently. You should contact the lender for specific information regarding the most current interest rate, fees, and eligibility requirements before taking a loan. You should carefully research the loan company you are considering doing business with. The Federal Trade Commission has a helpful website that provides tips on items to look for when selecting a lender.
