Pre-Art Therapy Overview

The Pre-Art Therapy program at Adrian College provides a strong foundation for students interested in combining artistic expression with psychological understanding to help others heal and grow. Through hands-on learning and internship experiences, students learn to apply their artistic skills- such as painting, ceramics, and drawing, to real-world therapeutic settings.

Students develop a comprehensive portfolio that showcases their technical ability, creativity, and personal artistic voice. These are skills that will ultimately support their work in facilitating healing through imagery and expression.

The program’s flexible structure allows students to major in either Art or Psychology while minoring in the other, ensuring a well-rounded academic preparation for graduate study. Adrian College students have achieved a 100% acceptance rate into the Art Therapy program at Wayne State University and have also continued their studies at institutions such as The University of Louisville, George Washington University, and New York University.

To practice professionally, students must earn a master’s degree in Art Therapy. The Pre-Art Therapy program provides the ideal foundation for success in these advanced studies and future professional practice.
