Program Policies

Expulsion

  • If a student has gone two semesters without taking an honors course, he/she will be dropped from the program.
  • Students whose cumulative GPA is between 3.00-3.49 for two consecutive semesters will be dropped from the program. In order to be retained in the program, they must bring their cumulative GPA up to a 3.5 by the end of the second semester.
  • Students with a cumulative GPA that is below 3.00 will be dropped from the program at the end of the semester in which the cumulative GPA dropped below 3.00.

Appeals Process

  • If a student has a valid reason for not taking an honors course for two semesters in a row, the student may notify the Honors Director before the two-semester lapse in courses takes place or may appeal the decision within 20 days following the notice of removal from the Honors Program.
  • If a student is making steady progress towards rectifying deficiencies in his or her cumulative GPA and can demonstrate that their cumulative GPA will be above 3.5 by the end of the semester in which they were expelled from the program, the student may appeal to the Honors Director within 30 days following the notice of removal from the Honors Program.
  • In order to register an appeal, the student must write a letter to the Honors Director that includes the following information: any special circumstances that help explain the student's performance (illness, family emergency, etc.) and the student's plan for improving his or her academic performance.
