Certified Financial Planning

Overview and Program Details:

Certified Financial Planning (CFP) (Non-Credit Bearing Option):

This program meets the educational requirements of the CFP board. Upon completing the program, students are eligible to sit for the CFP exam. This undergraduate certificate is 23 hours and is complete 100% online in an 8 week course format. This program is offered in partnership with a consortium of other schools.

Why Certified Financial Planning?

For students interested in becoming a certified financial planner or seeking CPA certification down the road, this is a great option to add to your coursework as an undergrad. It provides a pathway to meaningful and employable skill sets. 

Coursework can be started as soon as your sophomore year, so tell your advisor now if you're interested in fitting this into your 4-year schedule. 

CFP Board Recognized

This program was the first consortium-based program to be recognized by the CFP board as a Registered Program.

Certified Financial Planners make a median salary of $87,850, and the field is growing with 5% job growth projected for the next 10 years.

Some courses in this program are taken online & powered by Rize. The core curriculum will be taken on-campus, giving students the best of student life with the flexibility of some online learning.

The seven required courses are offered 100% online and they are:  

  • CFP 301: Principles of Financial Planning
  • CFP 302: Risk Management and Insurance Planning
  • CFP 303: Investment Planning
  • CFP 304:Tax Planning
  • CFP 305: Retirement Savings and Income Planning
  • CFP 306: Estate Planning
  • CFP 307: Financial Plan Development Capstone

Pricing: 

A typical Adrian College course is $1000/credit hour and the regular price for each 3-credit course is $3000. Our continuing education non-credit program offers these courses at a discount for $822.00 per course (a 72% discount). The cost for the whole program is $5,749.00. The courses will satisfy the requirements of the CFP Board to sit for the exam.
