William Pinnel, Jr. '54

William Pinnell, Jr. ’54, a resident of Garden City, Mich., and retired educator, athletic director, and coach, died November 2, 2021. Bill, a member of the SAE fraternity, taught physical education and swimming for 37 years at Garden City Public Schools. He was the athletic director of Garden City West High School as well as Garden City High School after East and West consolidated. He completed his master’s degree from the University of Michigan. Bill was a member of the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame for his years coaching track and cross country. In addition, he entered the AC Hall of Fame in 1991, and was awarded the Adrian College Alumni Service Award in 2012. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Geneva Walton Pinnell ’52, daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Pinnell King ’81 and Brian King ’82, son and daughter-in-law, William Pinnell ’83 and Deborah Dean Pinnell ’86, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
