Chemistry 204. Environmental Chemistry : Application of basic concepts of Chemistry to issues of air, water and soil pollution. The chemistry of energy generation and its environmental implications are also discussed. Fall or Spring

Chemistry 311. Organic Chemistry I : The first course of a one-year sequence for chemistry, biology, and pre-health science majors. Study of the various functional groups of carbon-containing compounds and their transformations. Includes structure, nomenclature, isomerism, synthesis and reaction of organic compounds. Fall

Chemistry 312. Organic Chemistry II : The second course of the sequence with emphasis on reaction mechanisms and spectroscopic identification of organic compounds. Spring

Chemistry 313. Organic Chemistry Laboratory I : Methods of compound preparation, separation and characterization, using instrumentation such as the gas chromatograph and infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers.

Chemistry 314. Organic Chemistry Laboratory II : Methods of compound preparation, separation and characterization, using instrumentation such as the gas chromatograph and infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers. The course contains several weeks of qualitative organic analysis and out of the lab assignments.
