Membership in Alpha Sigma
Alpha is an excellent way to learn to make
the most of opportunities. Since our founding
in 1901, we have attracted women who ASPIRE
to career and personal achievement, women
who SEEK the most from life and from themselves,
women who ATTAIN levels of success beyond
what they may have thought possible. In fact,
ASPIRE, SEEK, ATTAIN is Alpha Sigma Alpha's
open motto, and it sums up our approach to
life.
In 1901 at Longwood College
in Farmville, Virginia our five founders established
a "four-fold purpose" for their
sisterhood, to provide for the Intellectual,
Physical, Social, and Spiritual growth of
all members. For example we encourage high
standards of academic accomplishment through
a program of awards and recognition. Since
1958, Alpha Sigma Alpha has demonstrated a
strong commitment to improving the lives of
those who are mentally challenged, through
our support of the Special Olympics and the
S. June Smith Center. more
