HOLLAND, Mich.-- A deep hole in the first half proved too deep for the Adrian College women’s soccer team.

The Hope College Flying Dutch started fast and cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Bulldogs in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament in Holland.

Hope (8-7-2, 4-3-1 MIAA), seeded third in the conference tournament, advanced to face Albion in the MIAA semifinals on Oct. 31. Adrian (5-13-1, 3-4-1 MIAA) saw its season come to an end.
The Flying Dutch scored four times in the first half, then added another in the second half to take the victory. Allison Van Beek scored twice to lead Hope. For the game, Hope outshot the Bulldogs 13-10.

After posting a 5-53-2 mark from 2002-05, the Bulldogs improved in the MIAA standings under first-year coach Jennifer Lafferty and an influx of talented freshman. Adrian will graduate three seniors in Reshia Jamison, Stephanie Music and Erin Russell, but return the majority of its team next year. The Bulldogs had 23 players on this season’s roster who were either freshmen or sophomores.
