ADRIAN,
Mich.-- Lindsay Chitwood is continuing
to make a name for herself, while the Adrian College
women’s soccer team is putting the past
three seasons behind them. The freshman scored
both goals to spark the Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory
over the Tri-State University Thunder at the Adrian
College Performance Stadium. Adrian (4-8, 2-1
MIAA) surpassed last year’s wins total with
the win. The Bulldogs won three games last season
and five total games since 2002.
The
Bulldogs controlled play at both ends of the field,
holding Tri-State (0-11, 0-4 MIAA) without a shot
in the game. Meanwhile, Adrian was credited with
24 shots.
Tri-State hung with the Bulldogs for most of the
first half, keeping the game scoreless for the
first 36 minutes. However, Adrian finally solved
the Thunder in the 37th minute.
Melonie Rederstorf sent a pass to Lindsay Chitwood,
who sprinted behind the Tri-State defense and
beat goalkeeper Vickie Bearman, giving the Bulldogs
a 1-0 lead. Adrian continued to press in the final
minutes of the first half, but couldn’t
add to its lead before the break.
Chitwood
struck again midway through the second half, beating
Bearman from the top of the box for an unassisted
goal, making it 2-0. Chitwood has seven goals
and 14 points on the season. The Bulldogs rode
their defense the rest of the way to secure the
victory.
Chitwood finished with a game-high eight shots
to lead the Bulldogs, while Amanda House recorded
the shutout in goal. Bearman was credited with
12 saves for Tri-State.
The Bulldogs return to action Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
when they host Calvin College. The Knights defeated
Adrian both meetings last season.
