Baldwin-Wallace escapes with 3-2 win over Bulldogs

By Ed Patino, Sports Information Assistant

ADRIAN, Mich.-- Allie Wojkum spoiled the party for the Adrian College women’s soccer team.
Wojkum’s goal midway through the second half lifted the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs in the first-ever event held at the new Adrian College Performance Stadium.

With the game tied at 2, Wojkum crept behind the Bulldogs’ defense and redirected Ashley Belardo’s shot past Adrian goalkeeper Amanda House at the 64:59 mark. Adrian (1-3) had chances in the final six minutes of regulation, but was unable to solve the Jackets’ defense and goalkeeper Michelle Neff.

The Bulldogs got off to a good start. At the 5:48 mark, freshman Lindsay Chitwood pounced on a loose ball, raced in on a breakaway and beat Neff, giving Adrian a 1-0 lead. Baldwin-Wallace (3-1) answered at the 12:49 mark when Jenny Miller put her shot from the right corner past House. Defense dominated the rest of the half, sending the game into the break tied.

The Jackets grabbed a 2-1 lead early in the second half when Brittan Davis scored an unassisted goal from the top of the crease. Adrian pressed the attack for the next 10 minutes and was rewarded at the 60:49 mark. Chitwood converted a pass from senior Stephanie Music, making it 2-2.

The Bulldogs best chance to draw even came with just under 10 minutes remaining as Chitwood raced down the left side of the field, but Neff turned aside her shot from the top of the crease.
For the game, Baldwin-Wallace outshot the Bulldogs 11-9. Chitwood had a game-high six shots to lead Adrian, while Erin Russell added two shots. House recorded four saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

Miller led the Yellow Jackets with three shots, while Neff was credited with seven saves.
The Bulldogs will return to action Sept. 13 when they host Hiram College at 4 p.m.
