Bulldogs earn third MIAA win, 63-55 over
K-zoo
ADRIAN,
Mich.—
The Adrian College women’s basketball team
downed Kalamazoo College, 63-55, at the Merillat
Center on Wednesday night.
Nichole
Roose scored a season-high 22 points and had her
first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.
The junior guard also added five assists, while
hitting 7-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-8 from
beyond the arc. Senior point guard Corri Helldobler
was credited with the 300th assist of her career,
while freshman center Kim Olech led all players
with 13 rebounds and tallied eight points.
AC
freshman guard Anita Stamps finished with 14 points
on 7-of-13 shooting. The Bulldogs hit just 35%
of their shots, but out rebounded the guests,
51-41.
Kelsea
Howell led the Hornets with 20 points.
After
leading by nine at the halftime break, 31-22,
the Bulldogs stretched to their biggest lead of
the game, 40-23 at the 16:35 mark of the second
half when Stamps hit a driving lay-up off a Liz
Hafeli assist.
Howell
cut the Adrian lead to seven, 51-44, with seven
minutes left, on a lay up, but a jumper by Jenny
Carlson was followed by a lay-in by Roose to make
the lead 11 with 4:31 left.
Helldobler
and Roose would hit 5-of-6 free throws down the
stretch to secure the eight point Adrian win.
The
Bulldogs are now 8-9 on the season and 3-7 in
the MIAA. Kalamazoo falls to 3-15 overall and
2-8 in the league.
Adrian
will next travel to Calvin College on Saturday
at 3 p.m. The Knights are 16-1 overall, 9-0 in
the MIAA, and ranked #4 in the nation.
