Adrian
dropped by top-ranked Flying Dutch, 47-82
HOLLAND,
Mich.—The
top-ranked Hope College Flying Dutch dropped the
Adrian College Bulldogs, 82-47, at Devos Fieldhouse
in Holland, Michigan on Thursday evening.
The
Bulldogs, 6-6 on the season and 1-4 in the MIAA,
took an early 5-0 lead, but fell victim to a 26-9
run near the end of the first half that propelled
the nation’s top team, and last season’s
national champion, to a double-digit halftime
lead and, eventually, their 42nd consecutive win.
Freshman
guard Jennifer Perrin led Adrian with nine points,
while fellow newcomers Alex Culbert and Kim Olech
added seven and six points, respectively. The
Bulldogs suffered from poor shooting, hitting
just 26% of their attempts from the floor and
14% of their three-point attempts.
Hope
was led by reserves Emily O’Hare and Lindsay
Lange, who came of the bench to score 12 and 11
points, apiece. The Dutch did not shoot particularly
well either, hitting just 38% from the floor and
11% from long range. Adrian was forced into 25
turnovers while the host committed 14.
Adrian
has now suffered two-straight losses, both being
to top-25 teams in Calvin and Hope. The Bulldogs
will look to get back on track when they host
Olivet College on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Merillat
Center.
