Bulldog scoring blows out Bluffton
BLUFFTON,
Ohio—The
Adrian College women’s basketball team won
their final non-conference game of the regular
season with an 82-56 win at Bluffton University
on Saturday evening.
Six
Bulldogs tied for the team-high in scoring with
nine points as the Adrian bench outscored the
Beaver reserves 40-8. Jenny Carlson and Alex Culbert
each came off the bench to hit 4-of-7 from the
floor and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Elysia
Norris also came off the bench to total nine points
on 4-of-6 shooting with one triple and four rebounds.
Three
starters, Corri Helldobler, Lix Hafeli, and Nichole
Roose each had nine points, with Hafeli totaling
a game-high six assists. Ashley McClarren and
Kim Olech had eight and nine points, respectively,
with Olech bringing down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Adrian
out-rebounded the hosts 49-34 and held the Beavers
to 35% shooting from the floor and just 7% shooting
from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs, converted 50%
of their shots on the game and hit 7-of-12 long
range attempts.
The
visitors jumped out to a 18-9 lead seven minutes
into the game on an Anita Stamps’ jumper.
Norris hit a lay up near the five-minute mark
of the first half off a McClarren assist to five
Adrian their biggest lead of the first half, 29-16.
Adrian went into the break with a 37-28 lead.
The
Beavers immediately cut the lead to single digits
out of intermission when Vicki Auer converted
a lay-in on Bluffton’s first possession,
but an 11-1 run between in the middle of the second
half gave Adrian a commanding lead and, eventually,
their sixth win of the season.
The
Bulldogs (6-4 overall, 1-2 MIAA) will next host
Calvin College on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
The Golden Knights are 8-1 on the season, 2-0
in the MIAA, and ranked #15 in the nation.
