Bulldog Tennis has second tough
day on spring trip
Towler and Baker get two first doubles wins
HILTON
HEAD, S.C.—The
Adrian College men’s and women’s
tennis teams both lost a pair of matches on
Wednesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Both
Bulldog teams fell to the Catholic University
of America by a score of 8-1. Steve Kerwin and
Danny Krsteski won 9-7 at second doubles on
the men’s side, while Sandy Towler and
Kristina Baker earned an 8-5 win at first singles
for the women.
Kerwin
and Ryan Schmidli each hung close in their singles
matches against the Cardinals. Kerwin fell 3-6,
7-6 (16-14) in the three slot. Schmidli fell
2-6, 7-6 (11-9) at sixth singles.
Leann
Brooks and Karen Kruisenga fell 8-3 at second
doubles against Catholic.
In
their second match of the day against Augustana,
the men were defeated 9-0, while the women fell
6-3.
Towler
and Baker again won at first doubles, this time
by a 9-7 score. Ellen Kroll won 6-2, 6-1 at
fifth singles and Baker was victorious 6-3,
6-4 in the second slot.
Schmidli
had his second close match of day with a 4-6,
4-6 loss at men’s sixth singles.
The
AC men were the only tennis squad in action
on Thursday, although their match with York
College was cut short due to rain in the Hilton
Head area.
Schmedli was closing in on Shawn Holzmann of
York in the sixth singles match. However, with
the score 4-6, 4-5, that match was among the
three that did not finish due to the weather.
The Bulldogs, after an 0-6 start to the year,
will return home to face Defiance College on
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
