Patterson named Adrian College synchronized skating coach
Brings 15 years of skating experience to nation’s second synchronized skating team

ADRIAN, Mich.—Lindsay Patterson has been named the head coach of Adrian College’s first synchronized skating team.

Adrian College offers one of two school-sponsored synchronized skating teams in the nation. With the construction of the $5.5 million Arrington Ice Arena approaching the final stages on the AC campus, Patterson is taking over at an exciting time for Adrian College and the synchronized skating community.

Patterson commented on her appointment with the Bulldogs.

“Obviously this is an unbelievable opportunity, not only for me, but for all of synchronized skating. Offering just the second college program in the nation sets Adrian College apart from other colleges and I can’t wait to build a team of great skaters and students.”

Patterson has 15 years of synchronized figure skating experience and competed at the national level eight times in her career.

Adrian College athletic director Mike Duffy spoke about Patterson’s impressive credentials.

“We are excited to have Lindsay on board to offer her tremendous knowledge to our first synchronized skating team. She has worked very hard to establish contacts around the nation and is dedicated to building a successful team of great student athletes.”

While competing in the United States Figure Skating Association, Patterson passed three international dances, and accomplished gold medals in US dance, Canadian dance, and moves in the field. She also passed the intermediate freestyle test.

She served as the figure skating coach at Potsdam State Figure Skating Club in New York from 2005 to 2006 and attended synchronized figure skating camps in Boston and Montreal.

Patterson has been the president of the Potsdam State Figure Skating Club since 2001 and was the captain of the EDUskates collegiate synchronized figure skating team from 2003 to 2006.

The new Adrian College head coach earned a degree in art studio from the State University of New York at Potsdam with a minor in art history.

The Arrington Ice Arena will be open for use by the community. It will offer lessons as well as league play for men, women and children.

A pro shop, snack bar and other eating facilities, and on-site parking will be available.

The arena is named after Dr. Robyn Arrington Jr. and his brother, fellow Adrian alumnus Col. Harold Arrington. The brothers donated $3 million on behalf of their family.

The arena will be located south of the stadium, near the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center.

The Bulldog synchronized skating team will begin competition during the 2007-08 academic year.
