AC Softball starts southern swing

Moore enters ninth season as Adrian head coach

ADRIAN, Mich.—The Adrian College softball team will open their 2007 season today at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida, against Lyndon State University.

The Bulldogs, led by head coach Molly Moore who enters her ninth season as the AC skipper, will look to improve on their 12-24 record one year ago and have plenty of talent to do so.

The leading offensive returners include sophomores Carmen Batway and Emily McLane. Both were named All-MIAA honorable mention in ’06. Batway hit .261 with 16 RBI and 13 runs, while McLane hit .337 with 18 runs. Senior Lindsay Tomasak also returns after posting a .333 batting average with team highs in runs and hits with 20 and 38, respectively.

The only returner on the mound will be Lindsay Mandeville, a sophomore that pitched 104 innings as a rookie. She struck out 18 batters in 17 starts for the Bulldogs in 2006.

A wealth of freshman talent will look to bolster the AC line-up this season. The Bulldogs are a very young team, having just one senior and three juniors on their roster.

After their southern swing, Adrian will travel to Concordia University on March 17 before opening their home slate on March 19 against cross-town rival Siena Heights University at 2:30 p.m.
