Late goal gives AC first win

Heaney lead Adrian past Olivet

OLIVET,
Mich. --- Adam Heaney scored late
in regulation to lift the Adrian College
men’s soccer team to its first win
of the season, a 1-0 road victory over the
Olivet College Comets.
Adrian (1-5, 1-1 MIAA) broke a scoreless
tie with just under six minutes remaining
in regulation. At the 84:27, Olivet (1-6,
1-1 MIAA) failed to clear a corner kick,
and Heaney beat Olivet goalkeeper Michael
Manning, giving the Bulldogs the lead. Goalkeeper
Ryan O’Keefe made the goal stand in
the final minutes, turning aside Andrew
Evans’ shot and covering a loose ball
in the box with three minutes left.
For the game, the Comets outshot Adrian
21-14, including 14-8 in the second half.
O’Keefe finished with 11 saves in
goal for the Bulldogs. Eric Drake had three
shots to lead Adrian, while Sean Dillion,
Matt Luthardt, Mike Prud’Homme and
Dusty Kendall each had two shots.
Jared Thirung had a game-high six shots
to lead Olivet. Manning recorded two saves
in goal for the Comets.
Adrian returns to action Sept. 26 when it
host the Alma College Scots at 6 p.m. The
teams split the regular season series last
year, with each team winning at home.
