OLIVET, Mich. --- Adam Heaney scored late in regulation to lift the Adrian College men’s soccer team to its first win of the season, a 1-0 road victory over the Olivet College Comets.

Adrian (1-5, 1-1 MIAA) broke a scoreless tie with just under six minutes remaining in regulation. At the 84:27, Olivet (1-6, 1-1 MIAA) failed to clear a corner kick, and Heaney beat Olivet goalkeeper Michael Manning, giving the Bulldogs the lead. Goalkeeper Ryan O’Keefe made the goal stand in the final minutes, turning aside Andrew Evans’ shot and covering a loose ball in the box with three minutes left.

For the game, the Comets outshot Adrian 21-14, including 14-8 in the second half. O’Keefe finished with 11 saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Eric Drake had three shots to lead Adrian, while Sean Dillion, Matt Luthardt, Mike Prud’Homme and Dusty Kendall each had two shots.

Jared Thirung had a game-high six shots to lead Olivet. Manning recorded two saves in goal for the Comets.

Adrian returns to action Sept. 26 when it host the Alma College Scots at 6 p.m. The teams split the regular season series last year, with each team winning at home.
