Henry Mensing, AC’s
athletic director for the past 17 years,
is now the director of athletic development.
This newly-created position will focus
on implementing the college’s strategic
plan for athletic facility expansion and
development.
Mensing assists the office of development
and Adrian College president Dr. Jeffery
Docking in fundraising efforts for the
proposed tennis courts, proposed baseball
and softball fields, and the proposed
swimming and diving facility. In addition,
Mensing will assist in creating the
Adrian College Bulldog Club, a booster
organization that will raise funds for
AC Athletics.
Mensing continues his role as the point
person regarding the construction of
the new multi-sport athletic stadium
and track & field complex.
Mensing’s tenure as Adrian’s
athletic director saw great growth and
success for the athletic department.
The football team captured MIAA Championships
in 1983, 1988, and 1989 while he was
an assistant coach, and in 1997 during
his stint as AD. Bulldog baseball also
won back-to-back MIAA Championships
the past two seasons, advancing to the
NCAA Regionals in both years. Women’s
basketball captured MIAA gold in 1991,
while the softball team won the conference
title in 1990, 1991, and 1993.
As an assistant football coach, Mensing
served during various times as offensive
coordinator, running backs coach, quarterbacks
coach, and wide receivers coach. Last
season, his core of receivers caught
135 passes for 1977 yards.
Mensing is an alumnus of Eastern Michigan
University, earning both his bachelor’s
and master’s degrees from EMU.
