Knights outlast Bulldogs, 84-65
Young pours in career-high 31 points in loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—The Adrian College men’s basketball squad dropped to 6-4 in the MIAA with a 65-84 loss at Calvin College on Wednesday night, despite 31 points from sophomore guard Desmond Young.

Young hit 7-of-9 three-point attempts and 12-for-21 overall from the floor. He also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior guard Ryan Gallus added 13 points, while junior forward Ian Weber led the Bulldogs with seven rebounds.

Caleb Veldhouse led the Knights with 20 points, while four other Calvin players scored in double figures.

The hosts outrebounded Adrian 37-26 and forced the Bulldogs into 19 turnovers. Calvin also capitalized on 50% shooting and hit 27-of-34 free-throw attempts. Adrian attempted just six free throws, hitting four. Buck Riley’s squad was whistled for 25 fouls to Calvin’s 12.

The Knights held their largest lead of the game, 50-29, four minutes into the second half. Calvin maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game to improve to 12-8 overall and 7-3 in the MIAA, avenging last month’s 75-79 loss to the Bulldogs at the Merillat Center.

Adrian is 7-12 overall and will host Olivet College on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
