Knights outlast Bulldogs,
84-65
Young pours in career-high 31 points in
loss
GRAND
RAPIDS, Mich.—The
Adrian College men’s basketball squad
dropped to 6-4 in the MIAA with a 65-84 loss
at Calvin College on Wednesday night, despite
31 points from sophomore guard Desmond Young.
Young
hit 7-of-9 three-point attempts and 12-for-21
overall from the floor. He also had four rebounds,
three assists and two steals. Junior guard Ryan
Gallus added 13 points, while junior forward
Ian Weber led the Bulldogs with seven rebounds.
Caleb
Veldhouse led the Knights with 20 points, while
four other Calvin players scored in double figures.
The
hosts outrebounded Adrian 37-26 and forced the
Bulldogs into 19 turnovers. Calvin also capitalized
on 50% shooting and hit 27-of-34 free-throw
attempts. Adrian attempted just six free throws,
hitting four. Buck Riley’s squad was whistled
for 25 fouls to Calvin’s 12.
The
Knights held their largest lead of the game,
50-29, four minutes into the second half. Calvin
maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder
of the game to improve to 12-8 overall and 7-3
in the MIAA, avenging last month’s 75-79
loss to the Bulldogs at the Merillat Center.
Adrian
is 7-12 overall and will host Olivet College
on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
