Bulldogs drop game one of 06-07
READING,
Penn.—The Adrian College
men’s basketball team fell 51-74 in
their season opener at Albright College.
Adrian’s
Corey Smith and Ryan Gallus each totaled
12 points for the Bulldogs, who shot just
33% from the floor, while Albright capitalized
on a 38-14 points-in-the-paint advantage
to keep the game out of reach and advance
to the championship of the Wyndham Tournament
against Catholic University.
The
Bulldogs’ cold shooting accounted
for a 22-8 deficit nine minutes into the
contest and the visitors were unable to
recover.
Albright
forged a 39-26 lead at the end of the first
half of play on the strength of seven first-half
points by Tom Murphy. Murphy ended with
a game-high 14 points.
Matt
Wayne came off the bench to score nine points
and grab five rebounds for Adrian. Fellow
reserve Mark Rairigh led Adrian with six
boards.
Albright
built their lead to 27 points when Murphy
scored on a fast-break lay-up at the 16:19
mark of the second half to make the count
56-29. The hosts maintained their double-digit
lead for the remainder of the contest.
Adrian
hit 2-of-9 from beyond the arc and just
5-of-11 from the charity stripe.
The
Bulldogs will face Neumann in the consolation
game at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
