Denryter, Spangler honored by MIAA

ADRIAN, Mich.—Two Adrian College Bulldogs have been honored by the MIAA as the conference’s players of the week for their efforts in Saturday’s 42-10 win over Tri-State University.

Senior quarterback Andy Denryter of Clinton Township (Chippewa Valley HS) was involved in 32 of his team's points. He completed 16-of-21 for 236 yards and three touchdowns, rushed for two touchdowns and scored on a two-point PAT conversion.

Denryter’s play has improved each week in his first season as the squad’s starting signal-caller. He has now thrown for 1170 yards, completing 60% of his passes with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions (four in first game).

Sophomore defensive end Matt Spangler of Delta, Ohio (Delta HS) had two quarterback sacks, two other tackles for lost yardage and a pass interception in the Bulldogs' win. He finished with eight tackles, five of them solos, and had two quarterback hurries.

Spangler has been the biggest surprise of the Bulldogs’ stellar defensive unit this season. The sophomore is third on the team with 31 tackles. He has also posted 6.0 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks.

AC is now 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the MIAA. They will next travel to Hope College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kick off against the Dutchmen.
