ADRIAN,
Mich.—The
Adrian College Bulldogs were named the
pre-season favorite in the MIAA Football
Poll by the league coaches and media
at Thursday’s MIAA Press Day at
Adrian College.
“It’s
great to be well-respected by the coaches,”
said Adrian College head football coach
Jim Lyall, in his 17th year at the helm
of Bulldog football, “Now it is
up to us to go out there and prove that
we merit that type of respect.”
Adrian
topped the list of teams with a low
of 30 points while getting four first-place
votes from the coaches and three from
the media. Albion was a very close second
in the balloting, leading the way with
a total of nine first-place votes and
31 total points.
Rounding
out the top four in the rankings were
Hope in third with one first-place vote
and Alma in fourth with one first-place
vote. Olivet was picked to finish fifth.
Kalamazoo was picked sixth. Wisconsin
Lutheran and Tri-State were picked seventh
and eighth, respectively.
The
Bulldogs step onto the proving grounds
when they open their season in their
new stadium against Defiance College
on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. They host Bluffton
College the following Saturday before
traveling to Westminster College (Pa.)
on Sept. 23.
MIAA
play opens for Adrian at home against
Kalamazoo on Sept. 30, followed by a
road game at Olivet. AC’s homecoming
game is the next Saturday against Tri-State
followed by a trip to Hope. Adrian will
round out their brutal schedule at Wisconsin
Lutheran, home against Albion in what
could be a huge game on Nov. 4, and
finally at Alma on Nov. 11.
