Nine Bulldogs named All-MIAA
in Football
Upshaw, Howland, Wallace, Spencer
named to 1st team
ADRIAN,
Mich.—Adrian
College Football has received multiple post-season
honors from the MIAA with nine Bulldogs being
named to the all-conference team and four receiving
coaches' honorable mention..
Seniors
Taz Wallace, Joel Howland, and James Spencer were
voted to the first team along with junior Desmond
Upshaw.
Second
team honorees from AC included seniors Andy Denryter,
TJ Williams, AJ Marry, and Mark Westenberg, along
with junior Brandon Mohney.
Seniors
Aaron Kieltyka, Kyle Lindsay, Chester Evans and
Gabe Garcia appear on the coaches’ honorable-mention
list.
Wallace
(Adrian/Madison HS) ends his storied career as
the top tackler in the history of NCAA Division
III Football with an average of 13.41 tackles
per game. The linebacker posted 138 tackles in
the 2006 season with 7.5 tackles for loss and
3.5 sacks, while also breaking up four passes.
He appears on the All-MIAA 1st team for the third
consecutive year.
Howland
(Adrian/Adrian HS) ended a great career at the
defensive end with 10.0 tackles for loss, 6.0
sacks and 46 total tackles. He also forced two
fumbles and blocked a kick this season. He ranks
fifth all-time at Adrian College with 12.0 quarterback
sacks.
Spencer
(Troy/ Troy HS) made 8-of-15 field goal attempts
and 28-of-29 PATs this season including a long
field goal of 43 yards. The kicker is the all-time
leader scorer at Adrian College with 203 points.
He averaged 45.5 yards per kick off this season
and led the MIAA in scoring by a kicker with 52
points. Spencer is making his second-straight
appearance on the All-MIAA first team.
Upshaw
(Detroit/Taylor Truman HS) emerged as a complete
wide receiver this season as the junior totaled
793 yards on 46 catches with four touchdowns.
He ranked third in the MIAA with 79.3 receiving
yards per game. He had 10 catches for 174 yards
and a touchdown against MIAA champion Hope College
on Oct. 21.
Denryter
(Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley HS) had a tremendous
season at quarterback for the Bulldogs. In his
only season as a starter, Denryter completed 176
of 293 passes with 17 touchdowns. His 2,123 yards
through the air tied an Adrian College single-season
record, while his 176 completions set an AC record.
Williams
(Muskegon/Oakridge HS) was voted to the second
team after totaling 726 yards on 142 carries for
an average of 5.1 yards per carry. The running
back ranked fourth in the MIAA in scoring with
11 touchdowns. Williams also caught 18 passes
for 131 yards and a touchdown this season.
Marry
(Hudson/Hudson HS) played in the final seven games
of the ’06 season after recovering from
a pre-season injury. The linebacker totaled 49
tackles in those games with an interception. In
the season finale at Alma last Saturday, Marry
had 10 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and two blocked
punts.
Westenberg
(Milford/Milford HS) totaled 53 tackles and four
interceptions from his free safety position. The
senior also had 2.5 tackles for loss on the year
with two fumble recoveries. He ends his career
ranked fourth in AC history with 13 interceptions.
He was named first-team All-MIAA as a junior.
Mohney
(Napoleon/Napoleon HS) had an outstanding junior
year at cornerback for AC, leading the team with
nine pass break-ups. He ended the season with
41 total tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and two
interceptions.
Kieltyka
(Taylor/Kennedy HS) was third on the team with
53 tackles as an outside linebacker and was fourth
on the team with 6.0 tackles for loss. He was
also credited with 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
Lindsay
(Toledo, Oho/Ottawa Hills) averaged 36.9 yards
per punt as a senior. He dropped seven boots inside
the 20-yard line and caused five fair catches
during his senior year.
Evans
(Detroit/Cody HS) was second on the team in receiving
with 40 catches for 413 yards and two touchdowns
in 2006. He ends his career with 63 receptions
as a Bulldog.
Gabe
Garcia (Adrian/Adrian HS) was a force on the offensive
line for the Bulldogs. The senior right guard
helped pave the way for 1.275 rushing yards and
14 rushing touchdowns, while also allowing Denryter
time to set records through the air.
The
2006 Bulldogs went 5-5 overall and were 4-3 in
the MIAA.
