Comets drop Bulldogs to 1-1 in
MIAA
OLIVET,
Mich.—The Adrian College Bulldogs
fell to 1-1 in the MIAA with a 10-13 loss at Olivet
College on Saturday evening.
Both
teams combined for just 500 yards of total offense
with exactly 200 on the ground (Adrian 74, Olivet
126) and exactly 300 through the air (Adrian 204,
Olivet 96). There was only one turnover in the
game. The Bulldogs out-gained the Comets, but
surrendered the game on a 47-yard field goal by
Olivet kicker Kyle Zabel with two minutes remaining.
The
Comets had the ball for all but 3:44 of the fourth
quarter, and held the Adrian offense to two first
downs in the final stanza.
Tavarski
“Taz” Wallace had another great game
defensively for the Bulldogs with 12 tackles and
one tackle for loss. Matt Spangler also stepped
up big with nine tackles and a tackle for loss.
Mark Westenberg and A.J. Marry each added nine
stops.
Andy
Denryter completed 19-of-43 passes for 204 yards,
a touchdown and an interception. Desmond Upshaw
led Adrian in receiving with 107 yards on six
catches and caught Denryter’s scoring strike
in the second quarter. T.J. Williams netted 57
yards on 11 carries for AC.
James
Spencer missed a 39-yard field goal attempt on
the opening drive of the game but converted a
33-yard try in the third period.
Kyle
Lindsay punted five times, averaging 37.4 yards-per-punt.
The
Bulldogs return home on Saturday to face Tri-State
University at 2 p.m. as part of Adrian College
homecoming festivities.
