Adrian
College alumnus Mike Duffy is at the helm of a
Bulldog athletic department that will boast 26
school-sponsored athletic teams during the 2007-08
academic year.
In
his 10 months as interim athletic director, Duffy
oversaw an athletic department that has experienced
unprecedented growth. He aided in opening Adrian’s
multi-sport Performance Stadium in September.
Since July 2006 when Duffy took over as the interim
AD, the Bulldogs have added 24 new coaching positions.
The $5.5 million Arrington Ice Arena will be completed
in August 2007 on the Adrian campus and will house
four ice sport programs; men’s and women’s
NCAA Division III ice hockey, men’s club
ice hockey, and synchronized skating.
Before being named the interim AD, Duffy was responsible
for the operation of the Merillat Sport &
Fitness Center as the assistant AD, while also
serving as an assistant football coach for 20
years.
As the assistant head coach and defensive line
coach for Bulldog Football, Duffy recently groomed
two-time All-American defensive end Mike Lewis
as well as All-MIAA defensive end Joel Howland.
Duffy was an All-MIAA offensive tackle for the
1980 conference-champion Bulldog football team
before beginning his coaching career. He has also
previously coached baseball and women’s
track and field at AC.
He earned his master’s degree in sports
administration from the United States Sports Academy.
Duffy and his wife Rachelle ’84, the manager
of the Adrian College Bookstore, have one son,
Nicholas, 14.
