College Hires New Vice President for Academics
Beginning July 1, Dr. Dale Nesbary will take the lead on academic improvement posted 4/17/06

Adrian College President Jeffrey R. Docking is pleased to announce that Dr. Dale Nesbary has been selected as the next vice president of academic affairs. He will begin July 1.

“This is an important appointment for the College and I am delighted by how it turned out,” Docking said. “Dr. Nesbary is a distinguished educator, a sound administrator, and a wonderful person. I feel confident about his ability to launch the College into her next important era of academic life.”

Nesbary arrives at a pivotal time in Adrian’s history. Academics are a major emphasis of the Renaissance Plan, an ambitious new strategic plan that is designed to take the College to a new level of quality and success.

Nesbary will replace Dr. James Borland, who has served as vice president and dean of academic affairs for 15 years. He taught English at Adrian for 20 years before that.

“I don't want this moment to pass without acknowledging the outstanding work of Dr. Borland, who leaves behind an important academic legacy that will serve the students of Adrian College for generations to come,” Docking said.

Nesbary is currently associate professor of political science and director of the master of public administration program at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. He earned a doctorate from Northeastern University, a master of public administration degree from Western Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.

Prior to his life in academia, Nesbary held administrative and research positions with the city of Boston, the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Michigan Senate Fiscal Agency.

Nesbary is a recipient of a 2003-04 American Council on Education Fellowship, the premier higher education leadership development program in the country.

“I would like to thank the campus community for the hospitality that you’ve extended to me during the search process,” Nesbary said. “I am thrilled to have been selected and look forward to working together to move Adrian College forward.”

Although Nesbary’s official start date is July 1, he has indicated that he will visit campus several times before then.
