ADRIAN, Mich. – Junior Art and Design major Sydney Wlodyka’s original portrait paintings are on display now through April 23 in the Nicolay Heritage Room, located in the Shipman Library on the Adrian College Campus.
Sydney’s exhibition earned her the title of Outstanding Underclassman Artist in Adrian College’s Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition last fall. Working in oils, Sydney portrays her friends and their families from their favorite snapshots. The story of each photograph is displayed alongside the related painting.
“I really didn’t expect the award, but once I realized I had a show to prepare for I knew I wanted to create a new body of work just for it,” Wlodyka said about her show. “I started contacting friends and asking them who would be willing to volunteer their time and their photographs for my show. Since I started I’ve actually had many people contact me to create more. It’s all just been so exciting.”
The exhibit is free and open to the public. It is open during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday 8am-11pm, Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 12pm-11pm. The portraits will be on display now until April 23 with the exception of Easter weekend, April 22-24.
